Individualized Private Art Lessons

Bay Area Parents: I offer private art lessons for teens and 'tweens wishing to develop a visual arts portfolio. My approach is individualized and personal. Lessons take place in my painting studio or at my home. The advantage of working together one-on-one is that each session is customized to the individual student’s ability, skills and goals. We can spend time really focusing on a specific area while developing each student's personal style and a strong body of work. Many of my students have used their portfolio for art school applications.

"Barbara was fantastic with my shy son - she made him comfortable right away and helped him move his creative ideas into action!  She had realistic expectations and high expectations of what a teen is able to do!" -Teresa (Mom)

"Barbara was able to quickly assess my daughter’s strengths and weaknesses and customize a series of enjoyable, achievable art goals, lessons, and homework catered specifically to my daughter’s individual needs" -Megan (Mom)

“I cannot recommend Barbara highly enough. In early 2020 we worked with Barbara for about a year. While in the middle of a pandemic, she patiently coached and inspired my daughter in a playful and low-pressure way. I am so glad we found Barbara and cannot recommend her enough for her patience, skills and knowledge. My child really loved working with her AND she got into the top San Francisco arts high school to boot.” -Lucy (Mom)

"I took your portfolio building class a few months ago, and I just wanted to say thanks so much! I definitely got better at drawing, and (the arts high school) accepted my application! It was definitely one of the reasons I got in. Thanks for the amazing class!"  -Ember (Student)

"I was impressed with the thoughtful and ambitious curriculum Barbara put together for the kids, definitely a cut above. Beyond this, we engaged with her on art colleges to consider.  I was floored by her quick knowledge about many of the schools down to art avenues emphasized in their programs. Mostly, I was taken by her warm, approachable & generous nature of sharing - it was so appreciated! " -Aileeen (Mom)
